Commercial security systems come in all varieties, and you’ll want to utilize more than one type for added peace of mind. Check out some of the different kinds of systems you can install below and how they can help protect your building. Badges and Buzzers If you have employees or tenants, the first line of security is your front door. For an office building, you can start with key card access that requires employees to swipe in. A buzzer with a camera attached is another option that ensures everyone is who they say they are and decreases the chances of wrongful entrance from a lost or stolen ID card. Coded locks may also keep common areas in your multi-family property or apartment building safe and secure. Tenants will simply need to punch in the code on a keypad, which is easier than trying to keep track of key fobs. Eyes in the Sky Installing a camera system acts as both a deterrent for theft or trespassing and a record of the aftermath. If someone tries to enter the building illegally, seeing cameras installed may help scare them off. Cameras are also great for events that happen within the building. If a fight or dispute breaks out between two individuals, cameras help give the full story, and knowing that you can always check past recordings is a great benefit. Alarms Putting in alarms will alert the authorities about a possible theft,or an issue with the building itself such as a fire. You can choose to either have a silent trip, or a full-fledged siren and lights show. Having your property in the authorities’ system will also give building occupants an added sense of security--just don’t forget to clearly label these alarms inside, so as to avoid any unintentional setoffs! Lights Motion detection lights may help deter loitering and theft, but they’ll also help tenants. In the event of an emergency, exterior lights will help tenants efficiently exit the building when needed. It’s also a great idea to install both interior and exterior backup lights that are designed to kick on in the event of a power outage. Early Detection Systems Along with preventing damage, every building should have a detection system for malfunctions. Smoke and fire alarms are a must, but there are many more options for added security. Gas leak or carbon monoxide detection systems are extremely important for commercial buildings, especially larger ones. Even a broken pipe can lead to a big repair bill. Having detection systems in place can decrease your chances of running into maintenance emergencies and costly repairs.
